i could've sworn this was an onion article.

really, when the words inflatable turd are in an article you’re reading, it can only be considered an epic moment in journalism.

awesome fireworks aftermath.

obviously, fireworks make people do amazing things.

an unexpected turn for the awesome.

so today explosions and boobs guy and i were talking about awesome commercials that happened to become hilarious viral hits on youtube, milkandcookies, ebaumsworld, etc. examples include wet pets, the hawaii chair, the bizarre sharper image beamz system, and of course the unintentionally filthy mr. bucket theme song (which i won’t link because you might think i’m some sort of monster).
somewhere along the way, i got to see an excellent cadbury (like the buck buck chocolate cadbury) ad featuring a gorilla playing drums.
seriously. a gorilla playing drums, advertising chocolate in theory, but really building a brand presence. it’s a great ad, i’m surprised i hadn’t seen it sooner.
but what i find most intriguing about it, is that they have a page of remixes. remixes! of the gorilla playing drums! for chocolate! the internet is AWESOME.
and then i find myself thinking “why didn’t i think of that?”
check the original ad below:

effective advertising.

really, i could get behind more ads if they had a jaunty personality like sammy stephens and an awesome song to go with it.
this is totally for nick. totally.
edit: oh man, even better? pet shop remix!

greetings from sunny sri lanka.

to be honest, with the time difference, all is a bit dark here. but things are well, and i wanted to drop a line to say hello. i’ve got a ton of pictures so far, and am realizing how difficult it is going to be to leave!
hi and bye
sam

there can only be one.

i’m an unabashed basketball fan. it’s my thing, my vice, i suppose. and i’ve really got to hand it to the agency who did the latest crop of playoff ads – they are quite possibly my favorite sports campaign in awhile, thanks to the duo of jonathan dayton and valerie faris (directors of little miss sunshine).
check this out.
everything, from the music choice to the pairings to the copy, is pretty much flawless in my eyes. but then again, i could be biased because i love the sport. but to me, it reveals a lot of the character and drive that i really love. also, it was really wise of the nba to put all of them up, because after the initial shock of saying “what on earth?!” i totally wanted to see more.
kudos, nba. kudos, agency. kudos, directors.

late night infomercial comedy.

i have a wildly varying sleep schedule. fortunately for me, that means that i get to catch the occasional infomercial made by time life.
if you haven’t seen a time life informercial, i strongly suggest staying up for one. why? because they’re so funny – without meaning to be. they’re overly scripted, with totally unemphatic “wow” and “woooo” and “check out this classic hit” interludes. i want to make one for the internet. totally tongue in cheek, but for something ridiculous like cooking supplies.
my favorite happens to be the air supply one – 10 discs of unforgettable soft rock (followed closely by the soul story.)... the full commercials totally shatter the unintentional comedy scale. i found an excerpt of one on youtube. it’s totally below this post. check out the guys from air supply, with their giant lemonade, vast knowledge of soft rock, and magical appearing guitar. it’s epic – but you need the whole commercial to get the experience.
i mean, look at the guy who sings pina colada – did you ever expect that?!
over and out, friends and barbarians. have a great weekend!
