Collective Buying Power from GROUPON™

Times are tough. Things are expensive. Consumers want to save and businesses want business.
Enter GROUPON. They offer up a deal-a-day email on various city-specific buys/eats/activities/events. The only catch is that enough people have to commit to the offer before it can be distributed. Groupon is an awesome way for individuals to get group discounts.
I saw a news segment about a month ago that clued me into Groupon and I’ve also seen an ad on Facebook. Right now they’re located in Chicago, DC, Boston, New York, & San Fran (whoohoo, all 3 Barbarian cities). And the deals are quite substantial too. So far I have participated in 2 Groupons and have saved a bundle. You can too!

Hi Jayna,

Thanks for mentioning Groupon. We are really excited to be bringing consumers Great Deals in Boston and in many other great American Cities.

Let me know anytime if there are any businesses, activities, or events that you would like to see featured on GrouponBoston.com and I will do what I can.

Thanks again!

oooh. this harks back to what I wrote my master's thesis about - specifically what I call "peer consumption" (in friendly reference to Yochai Benkler's notion of "peer production"). Carrotmob was one of my case studies - it orchestrates buycotts for purposes of improving the social responsibility of businesses (http://www.vimeo.com/925729).

Carrotmob should leverage Groupon.

Dell Swarm (http://www.zeusjones.com/blog/2009/dell-swarm/) is fantastical for the same reason.

ps. that's me lathering myself with paper money on the floor of a supermarket isle in the vimeo video linked above ;)
